Boiler House, Lady Victoria Colliery
|
A row of eight Lancashire-type boilers remains in situ, just as they were when the colliery closed, apart from the fact that the brass fittings have been removed.
The rectangular ducts are the air supply to the boiler, probably to minimise the amount of dust, although they may have been fan-assisted. To the right can be seen the fuel supply. The basic fuel was the fine sludge from the coal washing processes, originally from a dredger plant associated with the earlier washer, and later from the Dense Medium Plant, using a magnetite solution to separate stone and a circular thickener from which the sludge was extracted
