The Ranstad uranium mine is located near lake Vänern in the south west parts of Sweden. The uranium deposit has been estimated to 75000 tons, with a market value of approx $10Bn. In the early 60's, Sweden had a nuclear weapons programme, and big plans for nuclear energy. These plans were cancelled after a few years. The mine was opened in 1965, but closed only four years later.
