Forges Saint Bonnet de Tronçais
|
View on an old blast furnace (at the left) on the site of the former forges of Tronçais (Fr) founded by Nicolas Rambourg. In 1789 the first blast furnace came in operation. Nearby he created a reservoir producing enough water power for the forge. The region has large oak forests for combustible and the ore came from nearby Berry.
By switching from wood to coal in the furnaces, the production of this forge began to decline more and more from 1860 onwards. Because of this change in production they started to produce wire and steel cables among others used for constructing the Eiffel tower.
