When the Dinorwic slate quarries closed in 1969 the Australia Mill contained 36 Ingersol Rand saw tables, driven in pairs from a lineshaft at the rear of the building. The remote and inaccessible location has meant that most of this remains 41 years later. I had always wanted to see this place, and a fine winter day just after Christmas made for a memorable excursion.
